Twenty-four year old pop princess Miley Cyrus is currently engaged to Hunger Games actor Liam Hemsworth. This the second attempt at formalizing their relationship with marriage, as their previous engagement was called-off preceding a very public emergence of Miley’s natal Uranus-Venus conjunction.
Venus, especially in a woman, contributes to much of our aesthetic/ style, how we value money (and how easily- or not- it comes to us), and our relationship needs. Uranus is a freedom-loving, unconventional and rebellious planet and its energetic needs are very apparent in Miley’s wardrobe choices, and if you care to check out her Instagram feed, you can see that she also has a very eccentric taste in how she decorates her home and personal belongings. Some might think her style in general is “weird” but to most people with strong Uranian influence or Venus-Uranus aspects in their natal chart (as I have) find Miley to be a refreshing breeze in an industry of pre-packaged musicians and former child stars.
But what does this Uranus-Venus conjunction say about her relationship needs? Miley has admitted to being bisexual in the past and is a vocal supporter of the LGBT community, giving a lot of attention and charitable contributions to supporting LGBT youth. In my previous post on Uranus-Venus Aspects I discussed how the conjunction and other aspects are quite common in the natal charts of those who do not exclusively participate in heterosexual relationships. It also gives the chart holder an electric universal appeal and desire for variety in their relationships. In fact, many eschew traditional marriage all together in favor of more unconventional relationship set-ups. Long-distance relationships, open relationships, polyamory, swinging, same-sex partnerships, living in separate homes, and any other type of non-traditional relationship style is what the Venus-Uranus chart holder needs in order to maintain a relationship in which they still feel like an individual and can preserve their sense of personal freedom.
That said, the question is what does one really know about their true relationship needs at the age of 24? Most people over the age of 30 would probably laugh at who or what they thought they needed at such a young age. Some do get it right that young, but they are usually the lucky exceptions. The rest of us have to go through trial and error to come to a place where we feel we know what can keep us content in a long-term relationship. This will probably not be a popular opinion but it will be something I will iterate again and again throughout my postings on this site: a marriage before one’s Saturn Return, which happens for all of us between the ages of 27 and 30, is usually not built for the long-term. I’ll discuss Saturn Returns in a later post, but essentially the, often dramatic, changes that take place in our egos, emotional lives and external world during this period make us very different people on the other side of it. It can be a difficult storm for a couple to weather even with awesome synastry compatibility. Some relationships to survive but leave one (or both partners) feeling like something is missing, or not as fulfilling as it once was. Then begins a breaking away period or the task of rebuilding the relationship from this new beginning.
So these two conditions, a Venus-Uranus aspect and a marriage before the Saturn Return, greatly increase the potential for a marriage that may simply not occur (best case scenario) or will not have a strong enough foundation to last long-term. This is not, I repeat NOT, to say no one should get married or make strong commitments with either or both of these conditions present. The love that is happening for these two people and anyone else finding themselves in this place can be very real and very meaningful. The marriage itself, whether or not it lasts, can be integral to the karmic development and life experience of both individuals. It is what one expects from the relationship that needs to be carefully assessed and discussed with the ability to modify those expectations in the future. A rigid, conventional Capricorn/Saturnian relationship may appeal to Miley given her Venus in Capricorn, but over time, unless her relationship allows for it, the incongruous needs of Capricorn/Saturn and the conjunction with Uranus will continually create instability in her affection, a desire for more freedom, and a distaste for being tied to someone else, especially in the conventional bond of marriage. Miley also has a Neptune conjunction to her Venus, which probably makes her quite the romantic and may be the real drive behind her desire for marriage – the soul contract is what she is after.
What we haven’t accepted as a society, but many are slowly coming to realize, is that one can have a marriage of two souls without the contract of a traditional legal marriage. It would make things so much easier for people of all ages to be able to have their relationships validated and recognized on that level without the need for a legal contract. But we haven’t made it there yet, and so many still choose traditional routes that may not entirely suit them but allow them to gain the official recognition they desire from their family, friends, and community. It will be very interesting to see whether Miley’s Uranus or Neptune determine her chosen path in this relationship.
