A Note on… The Intellectuals and Communicators

There are several aspects I’ve seen that can make one excellent at sharing their ideas in writing and/or speech.  These natives often have a facility with languages, may have started reading and writing at an early age, show a strong interest in literature and media (or in the case of conjunctions, interests relevant to the sign placement). They also have a strong need for personal interaction on a daily basis and generally don’t like being alone for long periods of time.  They can become easily depressed in isolation and very agitated or anxious when cut-off from communication via their mobile phones, the Internet, texting, books, television etc.  These are the sorts of people who as teens can go ballistic having any of these “privileges” (which for them are actually necessities) taken away as a form of punishment.

These men and women have a lot to offer in the workplace and as the heads of industry.  They literally keep everyone connected and when their energy is used constructively, can come up with ground-breaking ideas and strategic plans to move a company forward.  Executing those plans may be best left to Capricorn/Saturn or Taurus/Virgo types.

·      Mercury in hard aspect to Mars – Fast talkers. Aggressive forceful speech. Great debaters if other aspects support an intellectual bent.  Excellent salesmen/women.  (Proceed with caution if either Mercury or Mars is in hard aspect to Neptune)

·      Sun conjunct Mercury:  This is often seen in the charts of talking heads, pundits, and intellectuals.  The Mercury influence here makes the Sun person constantly on the move, looking for more sources of information to digest and then disseminate.  Great literary talent, scientists, and “ideas people” have this aspect.

·      Mercury in Virgo, Gemini, or Aquarius:  Both Virgo and Gemini are co-rulers of the planet Mercury and therefore function exceptionally well in their natural position.  These are your natural-born communicators, editors, writers, hosts, pundits, technicians, and critics, assuming there are no adverse aspects being made to Mercury.  The house position of a Virgo or Gemini Mercury can add more color and show how and where the individual’s Mercury best functions.

·      I’ve added Mercury in Aquarius to this and it may raise a few eyebrows.  Aquarius is the ruler of Uranus and Uranus is a higher octave of Mercury.  These people don’t communicate in a way that is considered “normal” nor is their train of thought always easy to follow.  But what they excel in is speaking to the collective; sharing ideas not on a personal/individual level, but on a group or collective level.  They are often forward-thinking and future-oriented, and make excellent scientists, innovators, mathematicians, philosophers, religious or cult leaders, etc.  If Gemini Mercury is the journalist on assignment reporting on a novel invention, the Aquarius Mercury is sitting in the chair across from him/her explaining their novel theory in a way the public understands, though it may take a few months, or decades, for the world to realize Aquarius Mercury was right all along.

I think this trio (Mercury in Virgo, Gemini, and Aquarius) is an excellent combination to look for when putting together a communications or ideas team, especially in consulting firms, at start-ups, teams running a political or marketing campaign, doing project management, or giving presentations.  If Aquarius Mercury comes up with a brilliant but disjointed, unrealistic, or impractical idea, Virgo Mercury is equally brilliant at breaking things down, removing the fluff or inessential, and repackaging the idea in a way that presents well on, say a marketing proposal or investor report.  Gemini Mercury additionally can take what may be too “out there” for a lay audience, and quickly draw on supporting theories or sources to make the Aquarian idea seem less risky or weird. They then have the ability to present the idea with confidence and persuasion, even if they don’t believe every word they are saying. (Gemini’s are wonderful at playing Devil’s advocate, or anyone’s advocate for that matter.)  And Aquarius Mercury can make certain that a novel approach is always on hand should the team get in a rut.   They may not always like each other, but this is the kind of communication/ ideas/ intellectual team that can’t be beat.
